How do I personally relate to scale? How do I relate the scale of my drawings to their actual life size? These questions are illustrated in my 22ft wall drawing "Split."
Across from where I first hung my drawing "Split Rock," I drew its open split in perfect dimension on the museum wall opposite it in solid graphite. I drew the split as a reference for size and as a symbol of our perceptions of space and time and how they change in relation to place. In order to execute this wall drawing I needed a fire ladder to span the entire split, friends to help stabilize my perch, and to catch and number the sheets of paper as I tossed them down. In this way I mapped the rock.
